STEP Classes

We believe that growth and progress in the Christian life encompasses more than just coming to a church service one day out of the week. True growth and maturity comes when we learn to harness and apply the proper tools for cultivating a life for God, but this involves intentionality on our part.

Our mission here at Binnerri English Ministry is to lead people to grow into devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Our earnest desire is to train and empower everyone to live a life of devotion to God by equipping them with the necessary tools for spiritual growth.

This summer we will be offering our STEP Summer Classes (Study. Train. Equip. Practice.), in order to help facilitate and nurture that growth. We believe that as we study God's Word in training our minds and hearts through the internalizing of God's truth in our lives, that He will equip us with all the necessary tools so that we will be able to effectively practice the Christian life.

We also believe that God has gifted us with certain abilities and talents, so that we would be able to utilize them for His glory. We not only want to train our minds and hearts, but our hands as well so that we may be a blessing to others as we serve Him.

May God bless you this summer as you commit to taking that NEXT STEP!

Session 2 (July-August 2009):

Sunday Afternoon Classes (July 12-August 2)

Membership Class
Day & Time: Sunday Afternoons (1:30p-2:45p)
Room: RM 239 (second floor)
Leader: Rev. Kye S. Chung

You were designed to be a part of a church family. And that’s exactly what Binnerri English Ministry is intended to be – your family. That’s why at BEM we want to share with you what we believe and where we’re going. This four-week membership class is the basic introduction to our church family designed to clearly explain who and what our church is. We’ll answer your questions, share information on our church’s future plans, and how you may become a member. At the end of the class there will be an opportunity for you to decide whether to become a member or wait and decide at another time. No pressure whatsoever, we want you to be comfortable with whichever you choose to do. Our ultimate hope and prayer is that this class would help lead you in taking that next step in your relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.

Tough Questions: Is Jesus the Only Way?
Day & Time: Sunday Afternoons (1:30p-2:45p)
Room: RM 235 (second floor)
Leader: Pastor Andrew Yi

Religious freedom is one of the hallmarks of our nation. We have been given the freedom to exercise our personal faith. But do all religions lead to God? Is Christianity, and specifically faith in Jesus Christ, really the only way to heaven? In this class we’ll be addressing this issue through questions such as: “Who was Jesus?” “How is Jesus different from other religious leader?” And, “What difference does Jesus make today?” in helping us answer the bigger question: “Is Jesus the only way?” Join us as we tackle these tough questions.

Book Study: "Let Me Be a Woman" (Women Only)
Day& Time: Sunday Afternoons (1:30p-2:45p)
Room: RM 236 (second floor)
Leader: Kathy Chung

"In order to learn what it means to be a woman, we must start with the One who made her." Working from Scripture, well-known speaker and author Elisabeth Elliot shares her observations and experiences in a number of essays on what it means to be a Christian woman, whether single, married, or widowed. In this class, you will discover how God has uniquely created and shaped you to be the woman He intends you to be.

Book Study: “Let the Nations Be Glad”

Day& Time: Sunday Afternoons (1:30p-2:45p)
Room: RM 237 (second floor)
Leader: Casey Malarcher

Drawing on texts from the Old and New Testaments, John Piper demonstrates that worship is the ultimate goal of the church and that proper worship drives missionary outreach. He describes prayer as the fuel of missions work because of its focus on a relationship with God rather than the needs of the world. In this class you will be challenged to think beyond your city and see the world from God’s perspective.

Thursday Evening Classes (July 16-August 6)

Book of Jonah
Day & Time: Thursday  Evenings (7:30p-9:00p)
Room: RM 236 (second floor)
Leader: Rev. Kye S. Chung

If you've ever tried to run from God, you're not alone. We've all had times in our lives when we've done things our way instead of God's way. When we run from God our lives begin to unravel and we often hurt the people we love the most. Jonah rebelled against God and suffered terrible consequences but was given a second chance to do God's will. In this study, we will see important insights from Jonah's story into the nature of God's discipline and his love. The consequences of running can be painful, but from the story of Jonah we learn that God is in the midst of our most difficult circumstances and that he is a God of second chances.

Book of Ruth
Day & Time: Thursday  Evenings (7:30p-9:00p)
Room: RM 237 (second floor)
Leader: Pastor Andrew Yi

All of us have experienced times of difficulty and pain. Sometimes it’s caused by circumstances, and other times it’s caused by the people around us. And during these times we often wonder what we’re supposed to do, and where we should turn to. Ruth was a woman who experienced great loss and tremendous pain, and yet in the midst of all the challenges she faced, Ruth demonstrated such a godliness and trust in her Heavenly Father. In this study, we will be examining the life, faith, and character of Ruth. And as we dig deeper into her story, we’ll discover how she was able to stand in the midst of the difficulties and challenges that were before her, and hopefully glean some insights into how we too can stand in the midst of our difficult situations.

Apologetics
Day & Time: Thursday Evenings (7:30p-9:00p)
Room: RM 239 (second floor)
Leader: Joon Choi

Did you ever stop to think about what you believe and why you believe it? In this Apologetics class we will be taking a closer look at what it is that we as Christians are called to believe, and it’s eternal significance. We will study the historical nature of the resurrection, the reliability of the Bible, and explore the logic and reason for the evidence of Christian beliefs. In doing so, we will be preparing ourselves to give an answer to everyone who asks us to give the reason for the hope that is within us, with gentleness and respect.
